Made in Mexico
Tasked with capturing the stories and handcraft of NAJO’s Taxco plateros for this brand editorial, our team of filmmakers took a documentary approach. As we immersed ourselves in the Mexican way of life, the genuine love and appreciation for silver craftsmanship became evident, and the story began to unfold naturally before our camera.
Yet we felt something was missing - the connection to Taxco and its history. A miscommunication led us to a one-man workshop perched on a terrace overlooking the city, where we met Ruben, heir to William Spratling's legacy. Silver has been part of Ruben's life since childhood, and his passion for his craft was palpable. In his interview, he shared the rich history of silversmithing in Taxco, and his own personal journey as a platero.
Through Ruben's story, we discovered the true heart of Taxco's silver craftsmanship. It is a tradition that has been passed down from generation to generation, and it is one that is deeply rooted in the city's culture and identity. Our documentary is a celebration of this tradition, and of the skilled artisans who keep it alive.
